- Updating General plan/housing element/downtown plan, haven’t updated their general plan since 1973(!)
- Didn’t update the last housing element on time
- Growth Plan
- Less growth in the industrial areas
- Less growth in the car-dependent areas
- Transit line along Washington BLVD, desire for transit growth there (southern, lower-income part of the city)
- Plan for growth Downtown on Whittier BLVD
- Growth in the north near the freeway
- Planning new public park sites
- Inequality
- North part of the city has the highest resources, want to put affordable housing there
- South side of the city needs more resources
Goals
- Conserving existing housing/Prevention of homeless
- Increase housing production
- Increase housing choices
One councilmember was in favor of this plan to try to move resources towards the south side of the neighborhood
