Cerritos is working on rezoning. They have released their RFP and are talking with a possible consultant.

HCD sent a technical letter advising them (haven't located yet) that March 2025 is their rezoning deadline.

5 sites are included in the requirements. 2 are ready but 3 require rezoning. They have project applicants who are working to build housing on those sites.

Cerritos City Council meeting, 2/11/21

Cerritos' Housing Element is due Oct. 21, which means they'd better get busy. But instead, they've been busy appealing their RHNA quota, to no avail. Tonight they decided to hire RRM Design Group for $200K; this is a group that they've worked with before. There are two subcontractors, Veronica Tam and Associates, and Morse Planning Group.

After a staffer made a brief presentation about their RHNA responsibilities, there were a few questions from the council. This City Council appears to be woefully ignorant of the new laws, and the staffer who was presenting was not much better. They seem to think they can get away with upzoning some random parcels that will never be developed. "We don't have to worry about it penciling, do we?" [editors note: Actually you do.]

CM Barrows asked if they could instruct the consultant to concentrate on the Valley View sites near I-5. The staffer replied that those sites were already in the 5th cycle site inventory, and would be in the 6th cycle inventory as well.

Public comment was solicited. No one chose to speak.
